Turn on the Red Light / moving forward

Colin here,

My apologies for the silly Police lyric reference. We had a great time at the Red Light Cafe at the end of July. Saira Raza opened the evening with a beautiful cello, electronics, and vocal improvisation, the quartet played a set that included a haunting rendition of Ornette Coleman’s “Lonely Woman,” and then friends Bill Nittler (baritone sax) and Peter Sloan (trombone) came onstage for a sextet blow-out. Please check out video of the evening, recorded straight from the mixing desk:

Sister Sai solo set

Sataras Quartet first set

Sataras Quartet and Friends second set

This gig marks the end of our first public campaign, so to speak. We’ve been happy with our milestones so far as a now not-so-fledgling group: a solid book of tunes, a sonic identity, some great gigs, website, audio/video song demos, and good ideas on moving forward.

We will be reconvening soon to start up our next order of business: recording an LP!
