Photography by Steve Eberhardt
Our friend Steve Eberhardt is an amazing photographer based in Atlanta. His work has appeared in Rolling Stone, The Economist, The Nation, and The Guardian. Steve's subjects are diverse, but social justice, animals, and music are the themes that keep appearing and reappearing in his work. When there is a protest march or rally in Atlanta, Steve is there to document the event. His Facebook followers have long enjoyed his portraits of goats at a farm outside of Atlanta – Steve seems to capture each animal's personality perfectly. And he is well known as a friend to the Atlanta music community.
Steve loves taking pictures at the Red Light Cafe, and when he heard that the Sataraš Quartet was scheduled to play there, he showed up early to claim the corner table by the bandstand. He spent the evening shooting the band, alternating conventional shots with experiments – moving the camera during exposure, using very slow shutter speeds, etc. The results were remarkable, as can be seen below.
The Red Light gig was the first time Steve had heard Sataraš, and he professed to be blown away. Well, we're blown away by his photography. There will surely be more collaboration between the Sataraš Quartet and Steve Eberhardt in the future.
